Maritime Children’s Foundation was established to provide the extra support our children and families need, so that every child can get a great start in life.

We work across the communities in each of our Maritime Academy Trust primary schools to support our children and families from the very start of life, all the way to our children being successfully embedded in their secondary school.

Our programmes wrap around the core education offer in schools, to complement what schools offer. We actively partner with local charities and other third sector organisations, bringing in their expertise to support our families and children.

Vision: every child, regardless of background, gets a great start in life and thrives

Mission: support families and children from the start of life to the transition to secondary school, with structured programmes and community connections

Our Approach

We are wrapping support around the core school offer to support our families and children to thrive. We are firmly committed to building the confidence and connectedness of our communities, starting with our parents with the youngest children through our Strong Foundations programme. This is where parents connect and create friendships and support networks. In parallel, parents also have access to toy and book libraries as well as structured programmes for their child’s development.

We continue this support during their child’s time through primary school through our Community Ambassadors in each school. They connect our parents with each other, building community. They also understand what parents want and need and bring these services into schools - from mental health support for mums and dads, to financial advice, to food pantries and community lunches. Our Secondary Ready programme then supports our older children to effectively settle into secondary.

We complement this with our Saturday Skills Academies, which provide free extracurricular activities for three hours each Saturday across two Academy hubs for our older primary school children and those who are moving on to secondary school -they are welcome too! These build the confidence of our children and, just as importantly, provide all the children attending with the opportunity to have fun on a Saturday morning. That’s childhood.
