Inclusion: A Great Start for Every Child
Our aim is to give every child a great start in life, we must ensure that every child—regardless of their needs or starting point—belongs, thrives, and succeeds.
How it Works
-
The Fairness Factor: Inclusion is not an "add-on" at Maritime. Through our MOSS (Maritime Outreach Support Service), every school has access to specialist experts and resources at no cost to families, ensuring every child has what they need to learn. We have personalised curriculums for any child who has needs that mean additional support is necessary.
-
The Long-Term Commitment: From early identification in our 0-6 programme to the move to secondary school, we provide a consistent, inclusive pathway where your child is known and supported.
Benefits of Our Inclusive Approach
-
The Inclusive Teaching Framework: We don’t expect children to "fit" our classrooms. Instead, we use the national Inclusive Teaching Framework to adapt our teaching to the way your child learns best.
-
MOSS & Outreach: Our specialist teams (MOSS) work directly in classrooms to provide bespoke support for speech, language, and sensory needs.
-
Inclusion not exclusion: Our schools feature dedicated spaces for targeted support, ensuring children have a safe, calm environment to build their skills and confidence when required. Primarily, all children are taught in a class as all staff are trained to meet the needs of all children, particularly those with any additional needs.
Our Teaching-First Mindset
-
Evidence-Informed: Our framework is built on the latest research from the Ambition Institute and national specialists such as the EEF and the SEND White paper. We focus on "what works" to remove barriers to learning.
-
Maritime Bites: All our staff access specialised "bite-sized" training on neurodiversity and adaptive teaching, ensuring they have the expertise to help your child shine. We also ask staff what training will help them in our approach of continual learning for all and the ERT team will support in the creation of bespoke training.
The Maritime Promise
We promise that no child’s potential will be limited by their challenges. By putting inclusion first, we ensure that the promise of a "great start in life" belongs to every single child in our care.
