TA to HLTA and Specialist Career Pathways 

For colleagues working in teaching assistant and specialist support roles, we offer clear opportunities to develop and progress within Maritime Academy Trust.

Many colleagues begin their journey as a Teaching Assistant and go on to develop into roles such as:

  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

  • Specialist SEND support roles

  • Intervention and curriculum support roles

  • Pastoral and inclusion-focused roles

  • Progression into teacher training routes 

  • Progression is supported through structured development, coaching, and opportunities to gain experience across different phases and settings.

We recognise the vital role that support staff play in our schools and are committed to ensuring these career pathways are visible, achievable, and well supported.
