Digital Learning: Future-Ready for a Great Start
At Maritime our approach is aligned with the EEF Digital Technology Guidance. We use technology to bridge the gap between today’s classroom and tomorrow’s world, ensuring every child has the digital skills to get a great start in life.
How it Works
-
The Fairness Factor: To ensure a level playing field, we provide 1:1 devices (Chromebooks) for every child from Year 3 to Year 6 at no cost to families. Children in the younger classes will have access to a range of digital devices and experiences that link to the school’s curriculum. No child is left behind in the digital age.
-
The Long-Term Commitment: We teach more than just how to use a computer; we build "Digital Citizens" who are safe, responsible, and confident online from their very first lesson.
Benefits of Digital Learning
-
Enhancing, Not Replacing: We believe technology should enhance great teaching, not replace it. Devices are used to make lessons more interactive, creative, and personalised to your child’s pace. This means that every time devices are used, we consider how this is enhancing learning - if it is not, we do not use it.
-
Safe AI Integration: We use AI responsibly to give children instant feedback on their work, helping them understand their progress in real-time while keeping them safe through industry-leading safeguarding software. We also use Safeguarding software (SENSO) to monitor and intervene if necessary.
-
Independence: Having their own device empowers children to take ownership of their learning, preparing them for the independence they will need in secondary school and beyond.
Our Teaching-First Mindset
-
PedTech (Pedagogy First): We only use technology when research proves it will improve a child’s learning. Our staff are trained to be "mentors" in the digital space, keeping the teacher-child relationship at the heart of the classroom.
-
Maritime Bites: Our staff use our on-demand video library to stay ahead of the curve, mastering the latest tools to keep your child’s education modern and engaging.
The Maritime Promise
We promise to equip your child with the tools of the future while protecting the values of the present. A great start in life means being ready for a digital world, safely and confidently.
We don't just buy software; we build partnerships. We work hand-in-hand with trusted providers like Google, Nearpod, and IXL to trial new platforms and give them honest feedback from our teachers and children.
-
Trial Before We Buy: This ensures that any new tool we introduce is truly useful for our children.
-
Customised Tools: We give feedback to providers so they can improve their platforms specifically for our schools and our curriculum.
-
Staying Ahead: We make sure Maritime children always have access to the very best resources available.
National Research & Innovation
We are proud to be a leading part of the National PedTech Partnership, an initiative led by the renowned educational researcher Dr. Fiona Aubrey-Smith. Being part of this partnership means our schools are at the forefront of national research. By collaborating with other Trusts nationwide, as well as experts in the technology field, Maritime is leading the way on the effective use of technology in the classroom.
FAQs for Parents
-
Do I have to pay for the 1:1 devices or the Early Years groups?
No. As part of our commitment to a "great start in life," we ensure these vital resources are provided at no cost to our families.
-
How do you ensure my child is safe using technology and AI?
Safety is our priority. We use advanced safeguarding filters and teach a dedicated "Digital Citizenship" curriculum so children know how to stay safe and respectful online.
-
As an Academy who promote the use of 1:1 devices I am worried by the amount of screen time my child will get.
With many of our staff being parents themselves and our commitment to ensuring all children get the best possible start in life, we do understand these concerns however our approach from 0-6 is to ensure children have the foundational skills and knowledge required to succeed in further education. By Key stage 2, the introduction of 1:1 chromebooks is for considered learning, not just putting children in front of a screen. During a lesson your child may only use the device for a very small percentage of the lesson, for example for an interactive response, to do some personalised learning or to learn how to code. For us the teacher-child relationship and learning approach will always be our priority.
